The esoteric Tinariwen are making their way from the South Sahara for this summer’s edition of Citadel. The group’s name, meaning ‘empty places’, is a reflection of their native land. Forming from the remains of fractured nations, the band created a new style of music, swapping lutes and pipes for electric guitars and drums, addressing issues such as political awakening, repression and problems of exile.
